About Volunteering

**PLEASE NOTE - Because we are in the process of moving, we will be postponing our usual fall volunteer intake to the winter semester, most likely in January 2018 (depending on construction).

Please hang on to those volunteer applications, and watch our website and social media channels for updates in the winter. Please also note that we will not hold applications submitted in the fall for consideration in the winter - you MUST submit your materials when we open for applications in the winter.

Thank you, and have an amazing fall semester!

Volunteering for Wild Ontario is a unique experience that you will never forget! Our volunteers work hands-on with our non-releasable birds, but also spend tons of time cleaning, preparing food, maintaining our facility, delivering our education programs and attending our meetings. Volunteering for us is hard work, but we think the rewards are worth it! In addition to the rare experience to work with our amazing birds, volunteers learn communication, dedication, teamwork, leadership, responsibility and a variety of hands-on skills.

To be eligible to volunteer, you must...

-Be willing and able to commit at least 12 months (3 semesters) to the program.
-Be able to dedicate a minimum of 8 hours per week to fulfilling the volunteer requirements.
-Be able to travel to our facility at the University of Guelph at least 4 times per week.
-Be able to attend our mandatory meetings every Monday evening at 5:30.
-Be at least 18 years of age (or 17 if a University of Guelph student with parental consent).

Our volunteers require...

-Enthusiasm, dedication, commitment and a passion for environmental education and outreach.
-A mature, responsible approach and a willingness to learn and take instruction.
-An upbeat, positive and fun attitude, and a desire to be a part of an awesome team.

Our volunteers do not require...

-Experience working with birds of prey or other animals, delivering programs or public speaking.
-A background in science or nature, or to be a student of the University of Guelph.

Think you've got what it takes?

We strongly prioritize the right attitude and fit for our team over related experience or education. Our volunteers learn all the necessary skills and information during training, but it is hard to teach passion and enthusiasm! We encourage you to read over this page carefully, and check out our Volunteering FAQ to determine if volunteering is right for you.

If you think you might be the right fit for the program, please fill out our application (below) and email it to us with your resume and cover letter at volunteer@wildontario.ca! We assess our need for new volunteers at the beginning of every semester (September, January and May), but take only as many as we need. Watch our social media channels for announcements!
